Boat docks in Disney

Dock work for the south-shore lake homes of Disney, between the east end of Pensacola Dam and the spillways.

Disney is a small Mayes County town of 222 residents at the 2020 census, on the south shore of Grand Lake. Locals sometimes call it Disney Island because it sits between the east end of Pensacola Dam and two smaller spillways. State Highway 28 runs through town and crosses the dam west to Langley. Grand Lake State Park has a Disney area, and the town's population skews older, with a median age near 55.

What work comes up around Disney?

  • Lower-maintenance docks with composite decking for weekend and retirement homes
  • Replacing aging flotation and decking on older docks
  • PWC lifts and small-boat lifts
  • Corner lighting and electrical upgrades

Lighting and electrical

GRDA requires white or amber lights on a dock's outer corners from sunset to sunrise, and solar lights are acceptable. Wired docks need a labeled disconnect above the high water mark, no submersible pumps in the water, and a certificate from an Oklahoma licensed electrical contractor when the dock is built, changed, moved or transferred.

Common questions

Why is it called Disney Island?

The town sits between the east end of Pensacola Dam and two smaller spillways, with lake and spillway water on several sides. The town itself is named for Congressman Wesley E. Disney.

Can I use solar lights on my dock?

Yes. GRDA's application says solar or electric lights are acceptable, as long as they're white or amber on the outer corners.
